Moles:

A skin mole is a spot on the skin that can be small or large in size and can range from black, brown, red or pink in colour. We are born with all the moles we will ever have even though they may not be visable at birth. However they will darken with age. Some moles are flat and some moles are raised and some even sprout hairs all of which is normal. Moles although mainly harmless do have the potential to become skin cancer which is why you should look out for changes in it shape and size.

Warts:

A wart is caused by a virus called human papilloma. This virus infects mucous membranes and human skin. This virus causes the hard protein in the outer surface of the skin called keratin to grow too fast. 130 human papilloma virus have been identified and 30 to 40 of them are transmitted during intercourse. The rest are transmitted by coming in direct contact with another persons warts or by walking on a wet surface where a person who had warts on their feet had previously walked. Warts are sometimes described as a solid blister. It can take up to 9 months after contact with the wart virus before it begins to appear.


What Types Of Wart Are There:


There are 5 different types of warts. They are:

  • Common Warts: These can appear anywhere on the body but are more commonly found on the knuckles, fingers, elbows and knees. They may hjave a caulifloral like appearance and are firm and raised.
  • Verrucas: These are warts that are found on the soles of the feet including the toes and heals. They are a wart that grows into the skin instead of out of the skin. This is because of the weight of the person walking on it. They can be very painful at times. They usually have a blavk spot in the middle of them. This is the warts blood supply.
  • Plain Warts: These wart are usually found on the hand, face and legs of children. They are flat and smooth. They vary in colour from brown, yellow or skin colour.
  • Filiform Warts: These warts can be found on the eyelids, neck and arm pits. They are long in appearence.
  • Mosaic Warts: These warts grow on the palm of the hands and on the feet. They grow in clusters.

Skin Tags:

A skin tag is a growth that is considered malignant (i.e. non cancerous). Over growth occurs on the epidermis (i.e. the outer layer of the skin) which encloses a section of the dermis (i.e. the inner layer of the skin). They can at time just fall off or just stay on the skin for many years.
